Video captures suspected Turkish strikes on Assyrian village in Nahla

Yasmeen Altaji | July 8, 2024

Turkish strikes are reported to have hit the village of Chameh Rebatkeh in northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Region on Monday. The farming village is one of eight in the Nahla valley inhabited by Assyrians.

The strike would be the latest in Turkey’s cross-border operation targeting suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, in Iraq and Syria.

Strikes on remote areas of Iraq have been known to cause civilian harm, material damage, and widespread fires.

Turkey’s defense ministry routinely posts videos of operations in Iraq to the social media platform X.
