Founded in 2021, The Word is an independent news platform dedicated to serving the Assyrian community with streamlined, reliable reporting. Our weekly podcast centers Assyrian voices to track developing stories affecting members of the community around the world.

Assyrians make up a distinct ethnic group whose traditional homeland comprises parts of present-day Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran. At The Word, we aim to:

Yasmeen is a multimedia journalist reporting on the politics, policy, art and culture of the Middle East. Her work has connected her with stories and sources in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Lebanon, Jordan and the United States, among other locations, and has manifested in her written articles, audio stories and photo essays. A South Florida native, she is currently based in New York.
